Looking at stills from '2C New York City,' one would be forgiven for assuming they come from a post-apocalyptic summer blockbuster. Unfortunately, the reality of the images is far more jarring than any of that Hollywood fare. The short film, created by French filmmaking duo Menilmonde, imagines what the city of New York would look like if the global average temperature rose by just two degrees Celsius.
As global temperatures rise, so too do global sea levels. For centuries, humans have built metropolises by the sea, as access to waterways has long been essential for human prosperity. Putting two and two together, climate change represents the real possibility that many of the world's seaside cities will face major flooding – and that flooding is depicted in 2C New York City.
