For the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics, talented Japanese designer and architect Tokujin Yoshioka put together a conceptual vision for the potential stadium -- despite being unable to compete for a bid. The design features a multifunctional ringed sports area coupled with a roof that doubles up as a fire ring for ceremonies as well as pool and frozen rink for sporting events. The multifaceted spaced strikes a balance between a layout that honors the Olympic flame as well as the sporting competitions.

The ringed layout offers a circular space that visitors and athletes could potentially enjoy at the games. The rounded shape of the space offers optimal seating from all areas of the building, while the roof houses a pool that can also be used as an ice rink or a ceremonial circular flame.
