RFID, or radio-frequency identification, has been used throughout the logistics, product and transportation world to help organize the supply chain of a company. However, the consumer world is starting to see RFID tags for at-home use.
These "intelligent" gadgets have incredible capabilities. Coffee cups tagged with RFID tags can automatically open files on your PC, play music from a specific playlist or give you the weather forecast when placed over a reader. And refrigerators equipped with RFID readers manage your current inventory, send e-mail reminders when you're running low on produce and even suggest recipes based on the contents of your fridge.
