Kari is a professional Makeup Artist (and all around Pop Culture junkie) living in New York City and working mostly in Television and Print.
What is unique that's not in your bio?
I kill at Skee Ball! I'm also a great shot and a pretty good cook. I love cupcakes even though I'm not really a dessert person. I've learned a lot about gemstones recently. In fact, if there's any subject that grabs my attention but I don't know a lot about, I'll throw myself into learning it until I'm satisfied. I really don't like reality TV even though it pays a lot of my bills.
What's your favorite accomplishment?
All the DIY projects and bargain shopping that made my apartment so amazing over the last 2.5 years.
How do you define cool?
Cool to me is a state of being. It, like chic, or sexy, is not something that can necessarily be obtained. It's effortless and genius and enviable.
What is your secret to uncovering trends?
I try to be objective and remove my own sense of style from the things I'm looking at. Just because it might not be for me personally doesn't mean I can't see who it would be good for.
What do you enjoy most about Trend Hunter?
The ability to see things through the eyes of such a diverse group of people from all over the world.
What is your favorite trend?
That comfort food has overtaken art food. That the recession has forced people to be more creative with their style. That street art is making a comeback. That politics are engaging again.
What are your tips for writing a juicy post?
Care about the information you're passing along and present it in such a way that others will pay attention.
How do you reset to be creative?
Sleep! I never get enough! That, and either getting out around New York, or travelling when and where I can.
What inspires or excites you?
Passion. Detail. Intelligence. Fearlessness. Humor. Humility.
Predict something awesome for 2020?
It would be amazing if they could make "Beam me up Scotty" a reality!
