Gallery Kamel Mennour Debuts 'Is Paris Burning? 2019'

Paris' Kamel Mennour gallery has announced the launch of 'Is Paris Burning? 2019,' a new commemorative exhibition featuring the work of partners and art collaborators, Hung Yong Ping and Shen Yuan.

The art displayed throughout the exhibition explores Hung Yong Ping and Shen Yuan's idea that the city of Paris exists at a unique cultural crossroads; it is at one time the capital of love and beauty and a place known for violence and rebellion.

A standout piece included in the exhibition is a life-sized recreation of a spire that fell from Notre Dame in April of 2019 following a devastating fire. "The flames that consumed the spire rose into the sky and remained there for a long time," said Yuan in a 2020 interview. "It was like a divine sacrifice. Still, today, thinking of Paris, it’s hard to forget that fire," said Yuan referencing the inspiration for the piece.
