Studio Merlin Renovates the Victorian Hoj House in London

British architecture firm Studio Merlin updates the Hoj House, which is a Victorian home in London's Stoke Newington. It is topped with a wildflower extension inspired by Scandinavian aesthetics. The Hoj House is dubbed after the Danish word for high, taking over a terrace defined by its four-story tall dwellings with narrow gardens at the back.

It has a broad and low-lying extension made from neutral concrete blocks to contrast the London stock brick of the original home in a honey-like hue. The founder, Josh Piddock shared with Dezeen, "Our clients wanted a flexible space that would allow a seamless flow of activity from outside to inside, particularly during the summer for family gatherings. The material palette was deliberately neutral in order to draw attention to the natural elements and provide a balanced and warm minimalist aesthetic."
