Refurbished London Victorian Townhomes

Studio Hallett Ike Transforms the BR House in Hackney

Oxford design firm Studio Hallett Ike has taken on the design project of refurbishing the BR House. It is a historic Victorian townhome in east London's Hackney area. The team has added a studio to the garden and fully refigured the home. The purpose is to open up the dark interiors -- one of the main changes is removing a wall to unify the living, kitchen, and dining areas.

The studio partner of the firm, Jonty Hallett speaks to Dezeen about the space, noting "We were tasked with reconfiguring and enhancing the existing spaces without the option of extending the property in the traditional sense, as the bedrooms are situated on the lower ground floor. Through a series of subtle adjustments, we unlocked a layout that accommodated a main ensuite bedroom, a family bathroom, and a home office."
