My name is Karuna Israni and I am a 21-year old creative-something based out of Toronto.

The written word has been my calling for as long as I can remember, with pictures creeping up to a close second. I find solace in observing and capturing things that strike me in my surroundings, be it in the form of scribbles or snapshots.

As a soon-to-be Communications & Professional Writing Graduate, I relish all things marketing and design. Other lifelong loves include (but are not limited to) dogs, tea, and fashion.

What is unique that's not in your bio?

I often find myself defined by my inability to be defined. As an Indian born and raised in Dubai, who scuttled off to Toronto immediately following high school, I've always considered myself something of a nomad. Forever trying to pin down my concept of 'home', the answer is ever changing.

What's your favorite accomplishment?

Having mustered up the courage to launch a blog last Summer and working towards it every day to make it the best that it can be.

How do you define cool?

Staying true to your character, knowing your priorities, and hustling every day to make those dreams a reality - that is cool.

What is your secret to uncovering trends?

Watching the street. Trends are born on the street and once they hit the mainstream they start to lose their appeal as 'trendy'. Keeping an eye on your surroundings is the best way to pick up on trends early.

What do you enjoy most about Trend Hunter?

I love how it covers everything. Trends don't just mean fashion, or beauty, or tech. Trends on Trend Hunter mean science, culture, advertising - there's no limit.

What is your favorite trend?

I am currently just waiting for Toronto to warm up so I can embrace the cold-shoulder fashion trend with open arms.

What are your tips for writing a juicy post?

Write something you would read, don't write it for the sake of putting content out there. If you wouldn't read your own work, chances are no one else would either.

How do you reset to be creative?

I go back to my role models and read through their journeys from start to present to remind myself of the goal. I also find that it helps to stay away from my phone and let my brain relax and be present (preferably with a cup of chai).

What inspires or excites you?

Travel. Nothing gets me more excited to make sh*t happen than planning my travels ahead of time. I want to travel the world and the only way I'm going to do that is by working hard now.

Predict something awesome for 2020?

The world would've finally realized that we're meant to be celebrating our differences, not using them to tear each other apart.
