I hope people get out of the habit of buying random material things for people because they think they have to. During the holidays, my friends and I host potluck dinners as our presents to each other, and we buy or make cards for the holidays. It started as a broke college-kid holiday gift solution and became a tradition.

Marissa, what a beautiful tradition -- you have a trend there too! We usually manage to have very modest Christmases with homemade gifts for relatives and homemade cards. Fortunately, we're not very materialistic and neither are our children -- thank goodness because this year we'll be lucky to get them one gift each. That's okay, it's my husband having paid vacation days off to spend with the kids and I that always makes it an extra special time of year for us. :-) LOL -- I'm very anti-Santa Claus, ever noticed how millions of "good" kids around the world do not get anything but how many rotten ones do? Grrrr.
