Political social media usages have grown exponentially during the 2012 Presidential election in the United States. While they were widely employed throughout the 2008 election that named Barack Obama as its champion, Twitter, Facebook and more have been critical mediums of connection for the current candidates.
In the politically polarized election sphere in the United States, democrats and republicans alike have flocked to social media to pump up their candidates and air their grievances. Further, political figures themselves have set up social media accounts that they regulate. Obama and Romney's Twitter feeds are constantly updating, as are their Facebook pages. Whether they are generating these posts themselves or have a staff set up to take care of these things, social media is playing a major role in this election and offers an immediate politician to constituent communication connection.
