Japanese industrial ship manufacturer IHI Marine United is building a ship that even Greenpeace would be envious of: a rechargeable ferry. The Zero Emission Electric Propulsion Ship (ZEEPS) is an all-electric lithium ion battery propelled ferry capable of carrying 800 passengers up to 50 miles.
This rechargeable ferry won't be capable of long distance trips, but could efficiently go between port-based charging stations while producing zero emissions. Expect to see the Zero Emission Electric Propulsion Ship in 2015.
Implications - The Zero Emission Electric Propulsion Ship is battery-operated and hard to resist. The ship has the ability to recharge its batteries at whatever port it is docking in, making the design attractive to world travelers.
