Weaves by Ben Barretto, an artist born in Australia and based in Los Angeles, California, is a set of what appear to be old tattered tapestry. The only dead giveaway that they are neither old or tattered is the vibrancy of the colored thread used as well as the deliberate abstract patterns of the artworks themselves.
Contemporary and evocative, Weaves by Ben Barretto can be likened to a disrupted television screen with all of its fuzzy pictures and colorful lines. Interestingly, Trendland points out that relies "solely on materials from hardware stores" in order to blur the "lines between old world craft, modern technology and the gallery space." The result is visually striking and completely captivating.
