WaveSense is Using Radar Tech to Make Autonomous Vehicle Sensors

Ground-penetrating radar isn't exactly a new technology, but WaveSense is hoping to leverage this existing tech as a means of helping self-driving cars navigate roads in bad weather. According to WaveSense the GPR system could be used to scan up to 10 feet below the surface in an attempt to lock on to more stable ground. This data will then be combined with data from the car's other on-board sensors, to construct a map of subterranean features it can use to maintain a certain position on the road.
The implementation of WaveSense technology in autonomous vehicles will be a huge step forward in the future of self-driving vehicles, especially in harsh conditions faced in many parts of the world.
