Walmart Media Group is scheduled to release a self serve ad platform in 2020, which will give customers the tools to purchase space, as well as display ads. The system will be able to function without the need for prospective advertisers to work with a salesperson.
Self-serve ads offer an extremely efficient way to operate an ad business, as the company does not have to spend significant resources managing the ad business. Additionally creating an ad business would give the company another source of revenue that can help it compete against e-commerce platforms.
Walmart Media Group is also launching an API system that will help people bid on and buy different programmatic campaigns on the platform.
