Monolithic Sleek Summer Homes

Jan Henrik Jansen Arkitekter Creates the Vollerup Atrium Home

Architecture studios Jan Henrik Jansen Arkitekter and Studio Marshall Blecher join forces to design the Vollerup Atrium House. It is a summerhouse to enjoy holidays located in Denmark for a Danish couple and their family. The house is comprised of a main building that branches out to other tranquil spaces including a guest wing with additional rooms and can be closed off when it is not being used. Other elements include the covered terrace and hidden garage.

Founder of the design studio, Marshall Blecher tells Dezeen, "The site is on an exposed and windswept stretch of Danish coastline and the monolithic atrium provides a solid and unyielding refuge from the elements. It has been designed to be a generational house and the client wanted something that would last the test of time and age gracefully. We chose to use porous Italian travertine largely because of how it ages. The surface is unreflective, it changes colour slightly over time and softens."
