The future of the gas-powered automobile appears to be shrinking if concepts like the Volkswagen NILS are any indication. The NILS is a single-seat electric vehicle designed for short commutes.
The Volkswagen NILS is powered by an electric engine with a top speed of 80mph and a maximum range of 40 miles. The NILS is an extremely compact car measuring a little over six feet in length and standing just above three. Despite its small size, the NILS is packed with style and designed on for safety.
The Volkswagen NILS has two glass doors that open gullwing-style. This gives the car a slight edge and an added bit of luxury despite its cramped quarters. On the safety front, the NILS has been designed with a distance control system that can scan an area 656 feet ahead of the car. If you get too close to a car without hitting the brakes, then the Volkswagen NILS will engage its brake intervention system and automatically pump them for you. Like many concept cars, the NILS might never see production, but don't be surprised if elements from this car make it onto future VW models.
