Autonomous Urban Service Robots

The City of Irvine & Daxbot Embark on an Urban Mapping Initiative

The City of Irvine is undertaking a comprehensive evaluation of its public infrastructure to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and in order to expedite the process, it is utilizing an innovative technological approach that involves urban service robots through a partnership with Daxbot.

The City of Irvine and Daxbot are deploying autonomous urban service robots equipped with advanced sensor technology and GPS to systematically assess the condition and accessibility of a vast network of sidewalks and curb ramps. The robots will methodically traverse city streets, collecting precise data that will be used to identify necessary improvements and prioritize future upgrades to enhance safety and accessibility for residents with mobility challenges.

The project, managed by the contractor Bureau Veritas, will see these units operating on a scheduled basis across several weeks, with remote monitoring and technical support available to address any operational issues.
