Tennessee-based architectural studio Archimania created a contemporary urban school building design on a corner in the Midtown Memphis district. The project serves Ballet Memphis' efforts of expansion and is to be a home for the professional dance company, a sizable dance school with classes that are open to the community.
For the 44,270-square-foot urban school building, Archimania used metal brise-soleil that is not only aesthetically pleasing but can also reflect heat away from the structure. The architectural firm incorporates a sculpture-like box that bears the dance company's name and effortlessly draws attention to itself. Informed by the values of its client, Archimania was careful in reflecting the community-driven attitude of Ballet Memphis that calls for "transparency, connectivity and education."
