Upcycled Umbrella Art

Izaskun Chinchilla Designed This Colorful Umbrella Canopy in NYC

This gorgeous umbrella canopy created by Izaskun Chinchilla will be on display for the entire summer on New York's Governors Island. The use of vibrantly colored old umbrellas creates an eye-catching display that also functions as a dome. The umbrella canopy can shelter people when it rains and provide shade on sunny days.

This beautiful structure called 'Organic Growth Pavilion' was one of two finalists chosen during the 2015 'City of Dreams' competition hosted by the American Institute of Architects New York Chapter's Emerging Architects Committee. This striking piece of functional art is a brilliant display of how recycled items can be turned into beautiful and inspiring artworks.

The upcycled structure will be taken down at the end of the summer to be made into chandeliers, sun canopies and oyster beds.
