Earlier this week, Twitter India launched the first branded emoticon outside of the United States with the "#MakeInIndia" campaign. Now, it's following up with a Happy Diwali emoji.
When Twitter users around the world use the hashtag #HappyDiwali, a small image of a diya will appear in their Tweet. The diya is a traditional light used to celebrate Diwali in India. This second Twitter India emoji joins the black lion on an orange background that appears when the #MakeInIndia hashtag is used, which was introduced by the Government of India to celebrate products made in the South Asian country.
Hashtags and themed emoji are becoming more frequently used to create branded movements on social media. For example, the MLB released a special emoji and GIF keyboard for the World Series.
