This New York Studio Pays Tribute to Serena Williams with 21 Pieces of Art
Christopher Magsambol — October 4, 2015 — Art & Design
A series of tribute art was created to honor Serena Williams' 21 major championship wins. New York studio Vault 49 created the series as a way to celebrate the tennis star's historic career. Earlier this summer, Serena gained media attention by coming close to a year grand slam, which was unfortunately cut short.
The art tribute features many facets of Williams' tennis career. Many pieces are paintings of some of Williams' famous celebrations. Others are collages of Serena while in play. Some even include popular quotes from Williams who has been known to be extremely outspoken with the media. One stand-out piece in the collection is a simple painting of Williams celebrating her win at the French Open. Her arms are spread out in celebration and the painting casts her shadow as a silhouette of the Eiffel Tower, denoting the city where she was playing.
