The Toyota Research Institute has begun to use a VR training system on robots, which attempts to train robots to do basic tasks. The VR training could allow the robot to act as a home assistant, due to the fact that the VR system allows humans to see as the robot does, so humans can alter training accordingly. This means that robots could easily develop simple skills form human trainers. The robots could be trained to learn basic home maintenance skills, like cleaning or stocking a fridge.
The VR training system could potentially allow people to greatly reduce time spent on menial chores. However, the Toyota Research Institute indicates that only prototypes are being used and more research needs to be done.
