TheOne08 recently announced the launch of its new vegan handbag line that seeks to empower a community in Il Ngwesi, Kenya. The bags are made from natural materials, including vegan leather derived from pineapple leaves, and water-resistant twill created from recycled plastic water bottles.
The bags are produced by a community-owned and operated manufacturing facility in Il Ngwesi. The manufacturing process pays a living wage and also provides education and resources to the community. “In the context of TheOne08, luxury is our ability to make everyday decisions that uplift the lives of those around us and make a better future for our one planet,” TheOne08 founder Amir Hoda said. The brand hopes to allow global consumers to make an impactful design by purchasing one of its handbags.
The handbags range from $198 to $498 and are made to order to help reduce waste, labor, and environmental impact.
