The idea of collages is often strongly associated with paper, yet one artist has decided to shake the art form up a bit by introducing a series of textile collages. Depicting the beauty of African wildlife, Sophie Standing, who was born in England and currently based in Kenya, uses a patchwork system that is much more elaborate than anyone could imagine.
To create her textile collages, Standing first sketches on a fabric canvas and then incorporates a number of decorative textiles she acquired from her travels around the world. Full of vibrant colors and rich textures, the textile collages are utterly breathtaking. They are so intricate, however, that they could easily be mistaken for modern paintings.
