Traffic-Directing Shirts

The Tex-Vest Keeps Cops Safe on the Road

Directing traffic may not be the most glorious job for a cop, but that doesn't mean it isn't necessary nor dangerous; the Tex-vest helps to facilitate this assignment in a way that makes it safer for the police officer as well as the drivers on the road. The Tex-vest is a shirt boasting LEDs in green, red and yellow, which mimic the colors of traffic lights. These LEDs form specific signals that reinforce the wearer's own commands.

Designed by Jaka Plešec, the Tex-vest is a joint research project between the Berlin Weißensee School of Art (KHB) and the Textile Research Institute Thuringia-Vogtland e.V. (TITV). The Tex-vest is controlled by specific hand movements that change the color and signal produced by the LEDs. This interactive vest is practical and clever.
