Facebook is Reportedly Developing a Video for Television Set-Top Box Application

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that social media company Facebook is developing an app that would bring video to your television set-top box. The unnamed application would bring video content to your TV, enabling you to stream premium curated video content through a television set-top box such as Apple TV.

This move is part of a shift from a mobile-first approach to one that is primarily video-first. The app would conceivably improve quality ad opportunities by targeting those streaming videos on their TVs, according to Venture Beat. This new vehicle for video advertising would allow Facebook to expand beyond mobile or computer screens, increasing ad load and dollars.

This follows set-top box apps from YouTube and Periscope on Twitter.
