Swing by Kamila Szejnoch Brings New Meaning to Statue

Swing by Kamila Szejnoch is a playful interactive installation that will forever change people's expectations of traditional swings -- at least, the people who got to enjoy it in person. A simple public art piece, it involves a swing that has been attached to the bronze Berling Army Soldier Monument in Warsaw, Poland. The soldier's hand provides the perfect place for the swing to be attached to.

Part of the Polish artist's series titled Carousel Slide Swing, this installation endeavors to bring new meaning to the once propaganda-laden monument. Swing by Kamila Szejnoch "is an example of how much history can differ from the perspectives of individual and collective memory" and makes "this complexity and ambiguity more conspicuous, to show the relation between an individual versus the historical machine," according to the artist.
