Calbee's Sushi Snack Mimics the Flavor of O-Toro Tuna

By producing bold flavors like sour citrus and pizza as potato chips, Calbee continues to prove itself unafraid of experimenting with food, especially in the development of a new sushi snack.

One potato chip bag from the experimental snack brand is meant to taste like o-toro, known as a premium sushi-grade tuna. To simulate the fishy flavor, Calbee uses ingredients like avocado, soy powder and wasabi to recreate a salty, spicy flavor. This combination of ingredients is based around the practice of dipping a piece of avocado into a dish of wasabi and soy sauce, which is said to perfectly replicate the taste of o-toro.

Although the rest of the world tends to gawk at some of the unusual chip flavors that come out of Asia, Lay's Do Us a Flavor contest and other experimental brand flavors are helping to popularize potato chips that taste like an entire meal.
