The TopChair-S Wheelchair Detects and Climbs Stairs With Ease

— January 22, 2016 — Lifestyle
The TopChair-S is a highly innovative wheelchair that gets around a widespread problem facing people who have to get around on wheelchairs -- navigating stairs.

This particular wheelchair is more than capable of maneuvering its way up pretty much any set of stairs. It works essentially a like a regular electric wheelchair on flat surfaces, but when faced with a set of stairs, it automatically detects them before traversing up the stairs using its tracks.

Each chair comes fully equipped with a joystick and an LCD screen that can be used for viewing and controlling functions. The chair is powered by a pair of 60-A/h batteries, allowing it to zoom along at a speed of 9 km/h before it needs to be recharged.

The TopChair-S is a fine example of how technology can be used to make the world more accessible to people with physical disabilities.
