A group of researchers have developed a truly ingenious smart spray paint system that is more than capable of taking regular cans of paint and using them as raw material to create spray-painted murals that are essentially reproductions or recreations of already existing photographic images.

The system makes use of computer-aided painting. A series of webcams are set up all over the painting area in order to monitor the progress of the spray painting process and provide feedback to the user on a computer mirror.

Ultimately, this smart spray system will make it easier than ever for a notoriously tricky art form to be controlled to a certain degree, giving spray painters the opportunity to create truly slick photographic reproductions.
