Under Armour has Designed Speed Skating Suits for the US Team
After a controversial design for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Under Armour has once again designed the official speed skating suits for the US team ahead of PyeongChang 2018. Looking to shave off milliseconds wherever possible, the new suit employs clever design innovations that promise to make skaters as fast, mobile, and aerodynamic as possible.
Whether on the short track or the long track, fast and efficient speed skating suits can make a huge difference. While intuition might suggest that the suits should be as slick as possible, the opposite is actually the case. Under Armour's design features incredibly fine dimples, almost akin to a high-grade sandpaper, that create tiny pockets in the air that passes across the skater's body. This strategy breaks up the natural vacuum that gets created behind anything that air passes over — including speed skaters — and thus reduces drag.
