NASA is looking at third party options for the production of its spacesuits. The organization has even made formal requests to others in the spacesuit industry, in order to gain information about outside production options for spacesuits. NASA has previously collaborated with the organization in the private sector and academia on spacesuit design. However, now NASA is looking at completely relying on outside organizations to produce the spacesuits.
NASA is also looking to other organizations for new tools or hardware that could be implemented into the suits that could help astronauts using vehicles. Additionally, NASA will also examine the possibility of selling space suits to others outside of NASA.
Using third party companies cold help NASA reduce costs from having to produce its own suits. Commercializing the suits could allow NASA to potentially profit from its spacesuit production.
