Space-Navigating Chat Assistants

NASA Is Planning to Deploy an AI Chat System on the Lunar Gateway

NASA is currently developing a system to deploy on its Lunar Gateway space station that will help astronauts with certain tasks using a natural-language interface that functions similarly to ChatGPT. The station will be sent out to orbit the moon and support the Artemis mission. The platform is meant to help perform maneuvers and conduct experiments for astronauts.

Dr. Larissa Suzuki spoke about the new space communication technology at an IEEE meeting, stating that "The idea is to get to a point where we have conversational interactions with space vehicles and they [are] also talking back to us on alerts, interesting findings they see in the solar system and beyond. It's really not like science fiction anymore."
