The Solopatch Enhances Grip and Independence in Everyday Tasks

The Solopatch enhances grip and independence in everyday tasks through a discreet adhesive patch that increases friction on everyday objects. Designed by Liu Chia-Yi, the tool uses embossed textures and specialized fabric to support those navigating challenges related to age, injury, or mobility. By subtly improving tactile control, the patch transforms routine actions into experiences that require less strain and greater confidence.

Applied to items such as pens, jar lids, or phone edges, Solopatch strengthens control without changing form or adding bulk. Testing showed that the patch reduced the force required to open lids by more than 70 percent and cut task completion times by 85 percent. Compact and affordable, it reflects a new approach to assistive design, blending seamlessly into daily life. Solopatch demonstrates how thoughtful interventions can restore independence and dignity in the smallest, most meaningful ways.
