Solar Trailer Reefers

Sunswap Delivers Endurance Reefer Units to Wickham Freight Lines

Sunswap is bringing battery-electric, solar-powered trailer reefers to Australia, where Wickham Freight Lines has taken delivery of the first regular-production unit. The Endurance trailer refrigeration unit, or TRU, keeps food and pharmaceuticals cold without a diesel generator, replacing a trailer power source that can keep running even when the truck is electric.

Wickham bought the Endurance after a summer trial on its Sydney-to-Brisbane route and back. The out-and-back run spanned 1,670 km and lasted more than 30 hours. It ended with over 65% battery capacity still available, showing that the system can handle long cold-chain duty without refueling a separate engine.

Australia's first regular-production solar reefer delivery turns trailer cooling from a diesel-powered attachment into an electrified fleet asset. Keeping the refrigeration system on battery power cuts generator fuel burn and also reduces trailer noise and local exhaust around delivery areas.

Solar-powered Cold Chains
Solar-assisted trailer refrigeration creates new potential for long-haul food and pharmaceutical logistics with lower emissions, quieter operation, and reduced dependence on diesel auxiliary engines.
Battery-electric Trailer Systems
Electrified trailer components are reshaping fleet decarbonization by addressing energy use beyond the tractor and turning previously overlooked equipment into connected clean-power assets.
Diesel-free Reefer Logistics
Zero-emission refrigeration units are expanding the scope of sustainable freight by enabling temperature-controlled transport without separate fuel-burning generators.

Sectors Adopting This

Cold Chain Logistics
Temperature-controlled transport stands to be transformed by solar-battery reefers that maintain cargo integrity across long routes while lowering operating emissions.
Commercial Freight
Fleet operators gain new pathways to decarbonize trailer operations as auxiliary systems move from diesel dependence to integrated electric power platforms.
Food and Pharmaceutical Distribution
Perishable and regulated goods networks benefit from cleaner refrigeration technologies that support reliable delivery performance in urban and long-distance environments.
