Medical Center-Standard Retail Clinics

CVS MinuteClinic Expands Its Primary Care Standards

CVS Health is advancing medical center-standard retail clinics through MinuteClinic's first evaluation under Joint Commission Medical Center standards. This development reflects the company's shift toward ongoing primary care, allowing patients to receive preventive services, chronic condition management, and follow-up care within retail pharmacy locations.

MinuteClinic earned its seventh consecutive Joint Commission accreditation, covering more than 800 locations and its virtual care services. Over 65% of its clinics now provide adult primary care, while approximately 80% of surveyed locations underwent the expanded evaluation. The assessment examined care coordination, patient safety, and continuity of treatment.

For CVS Health, the accreditation reinforces MinuteClinic's growing role in primary healthcare and could strengthen relationships with insurers and health systems. Expanding these services may also attract patients seeking convenient access to ongoing medical support outside traditional healthcare settings.
