Smoothie Beach is one of the newest creations from Quebec microbrewer La Souche and it blends sour beer with apricot, raspberry and mango purees. The smoothie-style beer uses a pasteurization process to make the tricky type of beer more stable.
La Souche recognizes that smoothie beers are divisive because they can explode during transport, and it solves this problem. As the microbrewer says, “The fruits added to the blend contain sugar, bacteria and wild yeast that can impact the quality of the beer. To avoid this phenomenon, the production team pasteurizes the beer before adding the fruit purée, which has also been pasteurized.” To enjoy the smoothie beer, it's best to gently flip over the cold can and mix the ingredients before cracking it open.
