This year, the Toronto Silent Film Festival was met with the challenge of making old, silent, black and white films resonate with a modern audience. Ahead of the film festival in April and in celebration of 100 years of Charlie Chaplin on film, the Cossette agency in Toronto devised a brilliant social media campaign.
On the Toronto Silent Film Festival Instagram account, a timeline was created, strategically set up so that every single image uploaded (including the blank ones) fall in the right spot, with a film strip ribbon running down the middle.
By scrolling down the images on the account, an interactive timeline of film history was created, complete with video and image content. The effect isn't as apparent if you're viewing it from a computer, but on a mobile device, it's spectacular.
