The Siembra collection from Baba Estudio transforms rigid materials into objects that feel soft and malleable. Crafted in Mexico City by designer and architect Blanca Arcos, the series includes an armchair, a chair, and a side table, all blending steel frames with warm, layered plywood. Despite their solid construction, the pieces are shaped with organic curves and sinuous lines that evoke movement and flexibility, creating a striking sense of visual contradiction.
Each piece adapts visually and functionally: the side table can double as a stool or footrest, anchoring the seating ensemble while offering unexpected versatility. The armchair appears to simulate natural drapery in wood, with plywood “rungs” that visually echo growth rings. Through intentional material manipulation, Siembra blurs the boundary between hard and soft, challenging perceptions and inviting tactile engagement with what might feel malleable but is undeniably firm.
