Sprouting Chair Designs

The Wood Chair on Grass piece reimagines furniture through nature-inspired design, merging craftsmanship with organic form. The chair appears to sprout from a patch of grass, yet both the “grass” and “bark” are meticulously handcrafted. The grass is created from dyed and painted raffia fibers woven into a latch-hook rug, while the bark is sculpted from epoxy clay and attached to the wooden frame. Each element challenges the boundary between natural growth and human construction.

Made from plywood, wood, raffia, and epoxy clay, the chair reflects a dialogue between art and environment. Its tactile details—carved wood grain, layered varnishes, and textured surfaces—invite close inspection. By blending folk-inspired techniques with fine art sensibilities, the piece transforms an everyday object into a commentary on how humans interpret and recreate the natural world through design.
