Textured Metal Luminaires

The SEAM Collection by Articolo Fuse Welded Steel and Brass Wall Light

Australian lighting brand Articolo has introduced the SEAM collection, a series of wall luminaires presented at the company’s NoMad showroom in Manhattan. The collection features linear fixtures constructed from steel and brass with visible welded seams integrated directly into the surface detailing. Some seams appear as raised structural elements, while others are sanded into irregular multi-tone patterns running vertically across the fixtures. Narrow cutaways within the metal forms diffuse warm light through elongated openings.

The luminaires combine planar metal surfaces with rectilinear proportions and slender vertical profiles. Articolo stated that joining brass and steel created fabrication challenges due to differences in melting points, thermal expansion, and zinc vaporization during the welding process. The collection was developed through collaboration between the brand’s internal design team and fabrication partners.

Visible-seam Aesthetic
The intentional exposure of welded seams reframes industrial joinery as a premium decorative motif that could redefine product narratives and finish hierarchies.
Hybrid-metal Fabrication
Combining dissimilar metals like brass and steel highlights advanced joining techniques and material science challenges that enable new hybrid structures with distinct visual and structural properties.
Vertical Light Diffusion
Elongated cutaways and slender profiles that channel warm light vertically suggest novel form factors for directional ambient illumination in constrained architectural spaces.

Industries Being Reshaped

Architectural-lighting
Designs emphasizing sculptural metalwork and integrated seams indicate opportunities for lighting products that double as built-in architectural accents.
Luxury-interior-design
A tactile, multi-tone metal finish aligns with high-end material trends that can elevate bespoke interiors through visible craftsmanship narratives.
Metal-fabrication-and-welding
Challenges around melting points, thermal expansion, and vaporization point to demand for specialized welding processes and tooling tailored to aesthetic-driven metal assemblies.
