Long-form, miniseries documentaries have been rising in popularity over the last few years, making the cultural landscape prime for the new sci-fi documentary in production through AMC. The network recently greenlit the new series, which has the working title of 'James Cameron's Story of Science Fiction.'
Lately, science fiction content has been on the marquis. Whether in film with titles like 'Star Wars' and 'Arrival' or in TV with shows like 'Stranger Things' and 'Westworld,' the genre is dominant. It also has a rich history stretching back even before the time of moving images, with novelists like H.G. Wells and Jules Verne.
AMC's sci-fi documentary, which is the creative work of James Cameron (himself a director with experience in science fiction,) will go through the multimedia history of the genre.
