Samsung Wemogee Translates Simple Phrases into Emoji Strings
Samsung Wemogee is a new app designed by Samsung Italia that aims to give people with aphasia a way to communicate through the same modern technology that is ubiquitous in today's social landscape.
Aphasia is a brain condition that impairs people's language comprehension and expression. While those with aphasia have little or no decrease in their cognitive abilities, the disorder makes language virtually incomprehensible for them. One can hardly imagine the frustration that such a condition would create, which is why Samsung Italia created the Samsung Wemogee app.
The app, which can be applied to any Samsung keyboard, translates over 140 common, simple phrases into combinations of emojis. In word form, these phrases would be meaningless to an aphasic person, but as emojis the meaning comes through. The process translates phrases automatically between aphasic and non-aphasic texts, helping those with the condition to communicate with technology more regularly.
