Jaguar's Rooftop Solar Array Sits on Its Engine Manufacturing Plant

British automaker Jaguar has set up the UK's largest rooftop solar panel array atop its Engine Manufacturing Centre in South Staffordshire. Automotive manufacturing plants tend to have massive rooftops that are suitable for solar panel installations, and this hasn't escaped the attentions of automakers Ferrari, Audi and Renault. Now, Jaguar has decided to join the rooftop solar panel array party.

The rooftop solar panel array comprises more than 21,000 photovoltaic panels and boasts an energy generation capacity of 5.8 megawatts, which is expected to increase to over 6.3 megawatts by the end of the year. The solar panels are expected to generate more than 30% of the Engine Manufacturing Centre's energy requirements and reduce its CO2 footprint by over 2,400 tons a year.
