Microsoft Previews its New Handheld Console, the ROG Xbox Ally

— June 11, 2025 — Tech
Microsoft has officially entered the handheld gaming arena with the upcoming release of the ROG Xbox Ally, a portable console developed in collaboration with Asus and its Republic of Gamers (ROG) division. The device will be available in two configurations and is slated for launch in late 2025.

Unveiled at the Xbox Games Showcase, the ROG Xbox Ally and its enhanced sibling, the ROG Xbox Ally X, are built upon the foundation of Asus’ existing ROG Ally hardware. However, this next-gen iteration reimagines the experience with a custom Xbox operating system that launches directly into the Xbox app.

Powered by next-generation AMD processors and sporting a dedicated Xbox button, the ROG Xbox Ally blends console simplicity with PC-level flexibility. It supports third-party apps like Discord and alternative storefronts including Steam, Epic Games, and GOG, allowing consumers to experience elevated entertainment at home.
