Photographer Richard John Seymour Captures China's Commodity City

Photographer Richard John Seymour has captured the colorful world of China's Yiwu Commodity City in a colorful photo series capturing "the world's largest small commodity market." Yiwu Commodity City, located in the Zhejiang province of China, features hundreds of vibrant stalls specializing in everything from rubber bouncy balls and beach toys, to plants and wigs.

The colorful series won Richard John Seymour inclusion in the Tate Collective's 10 emerging talents under 26 in the UK.

The Yiwu Commodity City series is a playful look at consumerism and the relationship between individuals and their possessions. Many of the stalls within Commodity City take orders that will be shipped internationally, meaning the familiarity of the colorful toys and other products is well-suited.
