Post-Maternity Resume Tools

'The Pregnancy Pause' Helps Moms Return to the Workforce

'Mother New York’s' new resume tool, 'The Pregnancy Pause,' helps moms return to the workforce post-maternity leave.

It can be difficult for moms to explain gaps in their resume from maternity leave to new employers. The US federal government only allows for 12 weeks of unpaid leave after giving birth, forcing many mothers to quit their job after giving birth. This leaves a gap in their resume that can be hard to explain. Many employers stigmatize resume gaps, even those for maternity leave. This can put undue pressure on new mothers who already pressured enough.

To fill this gap, Mother New York developed a resume tool. It have created an official job title on LinkedIn called 'Mom' that can reference the Pregnancy Pause. Should an employer have any questions about this role, they are able to call the Pregnancy Pause for further explanation. This resume tool helps de-stigmatize maternity gaps and legitimizes motherhood as a job. While it may seem intuitive, the Pregnancy Pause elevates mothers from having a difficult and sometimes uncomfortable conversation surrounding their time off.
