Rake-Inspired Benches

Restel Furniture Transforms a Hay Rake into a Wooden Storage Piece

The Restel entryway furniture is designed by Monica Graffeo as a hybrid bench and hanging structure inspired by traditional Alpine hay rakes. The piece translates the wide, spaced tines of the tool into a system of wooden hooks that hold coats, bags, and daily items while maintaining a clear structural rhythm. It is crafted from Trentino larch, a regional wood chosen for its warmth and durability, and produced with the Italian carpentry studio Falegnameria Bosetti.

The form supports multiple uses within a home, functioning as a seating surface, entryway organizer, or freestanding divider depending on placement. Its open structure allows it to define space without blocking it, while maintaining visual continuity through repeated linear elements. The design directly mirrors the original agricultural tool’s function of gathering and holding, translating that logic into a domestic storage system with consistent proportions and material integrity.
