The Ressence Type 9 IKEDA Features an Eye-Catching Dynamic Display

— February 28, 2026 — Fashion
The Ressence Type 9 IKEDA timepiece is one of the latest accessories from the Benoît Mintiens-founded Belgian watch brand that's engineered with a sci-fi profile for an ultra-futuristic style.

The watch features the brand's patented Orbital Convex System and has been designed in collaboration with Japanese artist Terumasa Ikeda. The timepiece features a raden mother-of-pearl inlay with a traditional urushi lacquer that's ultra-thin and manufactured by being bent over rubber to achieve the proper curvature needed for the watch. The timepiece thus features a perplexing dial that maintains an otherworldly appearance at first glance.

The Ressence Type 9 IKEDA timepiece boasts a Grade 5 titanium case with a DLC coating that measures in at 39mm and has a customized ETA automatic movement supported by a 36-hour power reserve.

Trend Themes
1. Orbital Mechanical Displays - The use of rotating orbital modules and convex dial systems suggests new product categories that blend kinetic art with timekeeping for heightened visual engagement.
2. Heritage Lacquer Techniques Revived - Traditional urushi lacquer and raden inlays being adapted to contemporary forms point to artisanal-sensorial hybrids that combine handcraft with precision engineering.
3. Sci-fi Minimalist Aesthetics - Futuristic, pared-back case designs paired with surreal dial effects indicate demand for objects that evoke speculative narratives while maintaining wearable restraint.
Industry Implications
1. Luxury Watchmaking - Micro-engineered movements and bespoke dial architectures create room for vertically integrated firms to offer differentiated mechanical storytelling at premium price points.
2. High-end Jewelry and Inlay - The revival of mother-of-pearl and lacquer techniques coupled with contemporary design sensibilities signals possibilities for jewelers to fuse traditional ornament with novel form factors.
3. Advanced Materials and Coatings - Adoption of Grade 5 titanium and DLC treatments alongside thin curved composite inlays highlights opportunities for materials firms to develop ultra-durable, lightweight assemblies for luxury wearables.
