The Safety Mapping Tool is an innovative website and app, developed as part of a collaboration between the Australian Capital Territory government and the Women's Center for Health Matters, that is designed to make it easier than ever for women to report unsafe areas and help alert other women about neighborhoods that they should try and avoid.
The website allows users to access an online map and then drop a pin to alert others to specific area. They can then share their thoughts and views on the area, and can offer details. For example, a user can drop a pin on a street where she has regularly encountered creepy or sketchy individuals, or can identify a park that doesn't have sufficient lighting.
Ultimately, the Safety Mapping Tool empowers women by letting them report unsafe areas in order to inform the wider community about preventative steps they can take to avoid dangerous situations.
